EAVan uses Marlon FS as lightweight windscreen

Peerless Plastics and Coatings fabricated and supplied the Marlon FS windscreens of this innovative solution to inner city transportation designed by Electric Assisted Vehicles Limited.

Requirements:

  • Impact resistance
  • Windscreen level optical quality
  • Able to be cold curved
  • Easy to fabricate
  • Recyclable

The EAVan is a solution aimed at reducing C02 emissions in European cities initially by targeting the last mile on deliveries however, the platform has been designed to offer tailored solutions including mobile barista stalls and snacks/sandwich refrigeration vans. These zero emissions vehicles are manufactured from recyclable materials.

Peerless Plastics and Coatings hard coated full Marlon FS sheets on one side and fabricated the windscreens using a CNC router. The obscuration band (including EAV logo) was then screen printed on the uncoated inside of the windscreen then hard coat applied over the top of the screen print to provide long life abrasion resistance on both sides. The windscreen was then cold formed into place on the EAVan.

This innovative application showcases the impact resistance of Marlon FS, its suitability for screen printing, cold bending and its diversity of use. Its lighter weight also reduces the amount of energy the EAVan requires.

The use of Marlon FS also has environmental benefits to add to the vehicle being zero emissions. Polycarbonate is lighter weight than a glass windscreen making the vehicle more fuel efficient and also requries less energy to bend into shape than  glass.

The EAVan came Second Place in the Brett Martin iAwards (winners announced November 2019).
