Multivault GRP rooflights fast-track daylight across cycling and sports arena
Multivault GRP rooflights were selected to diffuse natural daylight over 3 different areas in Glasgow City Council’s Commonwealth Arena and Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome - known for sponsorship reasons as the Emirates Arena.
The Arena which seats 6,500 spectators, acted as a host venue for the 2014 Commonwealth Games with the indoor arena hosting the badminton, track and field events while the spectacular velodrome hosted cycling.
The Arena has a 200 metre athletics track with hydraulic bends allowing its conversion into a flexible multi-sport facility and the adjacent sports hall can accommodate 12 badminton courts or be subdivided into 3 separate areas for sporting activities. Named in honour of the Olympic and Commonwealth gold-medal winning cyclist, the ambitious design of the Sir Chris Hoy velodrome with a state of the art 250 meter track and permanent viewing capacity for 2,500, has already helped attract some of the world’s top indoor cycling events.
Multivault GRP rooflights are a popular choice for sporting facilities as they provide a more even spread of daylight and help reduce carbon footprint. This massive multi-sports complex will aid the development of Scottish athletes for generations to come as well as offering first class sports and leisure facilities for the local community.
